Released in May 2022, Topps Heritage looks back to the 1973 Topps design with that unmistakable bordered frame and retro aesthetic. The set captures a strong rookie class headlined by Julio Rodriguez, the Mariners prospect everyone was chasing, along with standout young talent like Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman. The base design nails the vintage feel with thick borders and simple photography that lets the card do the talking. You'll also find parallels in Chrome, Black, and various colored editions. The set was popular enough to move quickly, making high-end pulls scarce and second-year stars from 2021 like Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr. remain desirable here. What makes Heritage fun to hunt is the range of parallel tiers. Chrome parallels hit at different rates and the Black versions run much shorter. There's also a Chrome Refractor subset that carries real value, especially on the rookies. Real Ones Insert cards were exclusive to hobby packs and deliver autographed versions of current stars and prospects. Box configurations matter here too. Hobby boxes run around 24 packs with better odds at parallels and inserts compared to retail, which is worth factoring into your buying decision. The insert content isn't deep by modern standards, but it's clean and focused on recognizable names. Heritage appeals most to collectors who love vintage aesthetics and aren't chasing ultra-modern chrome effects. It's solid for ripping if you want a controlled product with real chase cards, but the hobby box price kept a lot of people buying singles instead. Julio Rodriguez cards remain the primary value driver, though the Rutschman and Henderson rookies hold their own. If you prefer simpler designs over heavy foil work, this one deserves your attention.
