2022-23 Upper Deck Extended Series Hockey

This is the back half of Upper Deck's base set for 2022-23, filling in rookies and stars who didn't make the cut in Series 1. Extended Series arrived later in the season and became the home for some of the year's most talked-about rookies like Shane Wright and Logan Cooley. If you missed grabbing key cards from the earlier release, this was your second chance to chase them in fresher product. The set maintains Upper Deck's clean design and straightforward photography, nothing fancy but reliable. Series 2 also introduced some players mid-season after they got called up or traded, making it essential for keeper leagues and franchise collectors. The parallel landscape here includes the usual chrome and rainbow foil variants that float around roughly every pack or two at different print levels. Canvas parallels have some scarcity relative to the more common stuff, and if you dig deeper you'll find Ice Premieres insert cards scattered into packs. Autographed rookies were the real pull, though those came at much lower odds and depended heavily on which retail or hobby boxes you opened. Retail boxes tend to feel thin compared to hobby, so if you're specifically hunting autos or chase parallels, hobby is the safer bet. The rookie contingent in Extended made this set worth opening, especially early on when people were still figuring out which names would stick. Extended Series sits in that middle ground of being neither as hyped as Series 1 nor as cheap as you might expect. It's worth buying singles of the rookies you actually want rather than ripping boxes unless you're feeling lucky or building complete parallel sets. Collectors focused on Cooley, Wright, or other 2022 draft class names should grab their cards directly. For general collectors, a couple packs are fun, but your money goes further elsewhere. This wasn't a lightning-in-a-bottle release like some years, just solid middle-of-the-road Upper Deck hockey.
