This was the first time Topps Chrome landed in MLS, bringing the premium refractor treatment to soccer cards right when the league was gaining serious traction with casual collectors. The base set features stars like Carlos Vela, Sebastian Driussi, and emerging talent across all 27 teams. Chrome's signature appeal is the refractor technology, which transforms standard card designs into prismatic variants that catch light in ways regular cards simply can't. Base cards have that classic Chrome look, but the parallels are where things get interesting for serious collectors. You also get some autograph content scattered throughout packs, mostly mid-tier players and rookies rather than mega-stars. What separates a good Chrome pull from a great one comes down to parallel tiers. Look for Gold Refractors, which sit lower in the print run, followed by Sapphire editions that were exclusive to hobby boxes. The rookie cards are always the chase cards in soccer products, and 2021's class had some legitimate future talent. Hobby boxes give you a shot at autograph cards and higher-end parallels, while retail packs keep things affordable but with limited parallel access. Green Refractors showed up frequently, but getting into the numbered parallels under 99 copies is where real value sits. Single hits from hobby boxes can run decent money if they're young players expected to break out or established names. This product works best if you're a soccer collector building sets or hunting specific player parallels. For most people, buying singles of the parallels you actually want makes more sense than ripping boxes. If you enjoy the hunt and don't mind base-heavy pull ratios, hobby boxes are the play. Chrome's visual appeal translates well to soccer cards, and the refractor tech holds up better in a sport where you might have fewer "household name" autographs compared to other sports. It's solid middle-ground product, neither a bargain box nor an expensive chase.
