2021 Topps Allen & Ginter

Allen and Ginter returned in 2021 as Topps' quirky, cabinet-card-inspired set that leans heavy on vintage design and off-the-wall content. You get the classic 2.5x3.5 inch framing, which feels like a throwback to the 1880s original. The rookie class isn't the main draw here, but Shohei Ohtani and Fernando Tatis Jr. cards still hold value. What really matters is the sheer variety: you're hunting base cards of Hall of Famers, current stars, and lesser-known players mixed with non-sports subjects that have nothing to do with baseball. It's part baseball card set, part curio cabinet. The parallels and inserts are where the fun happens. Look for Minis, Miniature Versions of the full-size cards that hit at different rates depending on the parallel. Red, Black, and Gold parallel versions exist, with Black the rarest of the regular tiers. The real chase cards are the autograph subset featuring active players and retired legends, plus the Topps Ginter Medallion cards embedded with actual medallions. Hobby boxes guarantee one autograph per box on average. Retail packs exist but carry different odds. The Non-Sports subset runs its own parallel track and appeals to a totally different collector base. Buy this if you like the aesthetic and want cards that feel special sitting in a binder. Allen and Ginter isn't built for flipping singles or chasing one specific player. It's better to buy packs and enjoy the chase because so much of the appeal is in the surprise and the cabinet-building aspect. If you're strictly after Tatis or Ohtani, grab singles instead. The autographs can be pricey, but base cards and parallels are usually affordable, making this a fun middle-ground release for players who aren't chasing modern hot rookies.
