2020 Topps Series 2

This was the second series drop from Topps in 2020, hitting shelves mid-year after Series 1 had already moved the needle. The set captures a baseball season unlike any other, with the truncated 60-game sprint and all its weird energy. You get Luis Robert as a true rookie in this set, along with emerging stars like Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, and Christian Yelich still commanding collector attention. The base design is clean but not particularly memorable. What matters more is that Series 2 introduced some solid parallel and insert content that kept the market moving through the summer. The real chase here centers on the Chrome and Sapphire parallels, which were the premium finishes everyone wanted. Chrome refractors, especially the numbered versions down to 50 copies, held value better than the base. Sapphire parallels are rarer and tougher to grade. You also have the 1952 Topps Redux insert set, which is a fun nod to vintage collectors but pretty common in hobby boxes. Hobby boxes came with more packs than retail, which made a real difference for parallel pulls. The autograph content wasn't as strong in Series 2 as it was in some other 2020 releases, so don't buy this specifically hunting signatures unless you're targeting specific veterans. This product is solid for ripping if you enjoy the 2020 season and want an affordable way to build a nice parallel collection. Buying singles for Luis Robert or your favorite stars is probably smarter than chasing boxes at this point though. The set doesn't have the star power or insert appeal of Series 1, but it's an interesting snapshot of that weird year. Better for casual ripping than serious investment, though the Chrome parallels of star rookies can still turn a profit if graded well.
