2020-21 Panini Select Basketball

Select Basketball launched in 2020-21 as Panini's premium mid-tier offering, sitting between Donruss and Prizm in terms of price and scarcity. The set centers on a cleaner design with die-cut cards and selective use of foil, making it feel more refined than earlier Select releases. Luka Doncic, Janis Murray, and Tyrese Halliburton rookies pull a lot of attention, though the checklist spans veteran stars as well. What really sets Select apart is the Concourse parallel line, which has a completely different die-cut pattern than the base cards, and the Premiers insert set that features top-tier players on premium cardstock. The parallel tiers are where you hunt value. Look for Concourse parallels in green, red, and silver, each with lower print runs than base. Crimson and Gold parallels also exist across the set. Hobby boxes typically run around 8-10 packs at 6 cards per pack, making it accessible but still hit-driven. The Premiers subset is limited and pricey, but if you're chasing Doncic or another star player, hitting one of those feels special. Retail versions exist but offer noticeably weaker odds compared to hobby, so if you're going to rip, stick with hobby. This is a solid rip if you want something between the affordable chaos of Donruss and the premium price tag of Prizm. Select works well for people who like the hobby experience without dropping $300+ on a box. The die-cuts photograph well, and the design holds up better than some of Panini's other 2020-21 releases. If you're on a tighter budget, buying singles of key rookies makes more sense, but for the experience and the shot at Concourse parallels, one or two boxes can be worthwhile.
