2017 Topps Heritage

Topps Heritage 2017 is a throwback release that mimics the classic 1968 Topps design with a modern twist. The set hit shelves during peak Jose Altuve and Giancarlo Stanton eras, so their rookie cards and early appearances drive a lot of collector interest. The base design nails that vintage wood-grain border look while keeping contemporary photography and stats. You get 425 cards in the base set, which is substantial, and the release includes plenty of parallels to hunt. Altuve's continued ascent made his Heritage card relevant even though his actual rookie came years earlier. Stanton and Clayton Kershaw are also names people chase here. The product feels familiar if you've opened Heritage before, but 2017's particular roster of stars and up-and-coming talent gives it its own appeal. For parallels, Heritage 2017 uses color variations pretty heavily. Real Ones, Chrome, and Hobby Exclusive parallels exist at different print runs, with the Chrome versions being scarcer. There are also Action Variations and Diamond Anniversaries inserts that break up the set nicely. Hobby boxes tend to run around 24 packs with 8 cards per pack, and you might pull a few parallels per box if you're lucky. Retail versions exist too but lack the chase elements of hobby. The autograph content is limited compared to higher-end sets, so expect mostly parallels and base hunting from a standard box. Heritage appeals most to collectors who love vintage aesthetics and don't mind sorting through a larger base set to find their guys. If you're chasing Altuve or Stanton specifically, singles are probably smarter than gambling on boxes. The set feels grindy rather than explosive, so it's better for people who enjoy the hunt itself over busting boxes expecting big hits. Solid product if you want that retro feel without spending a fortune.
