Released in early 2017, Bowman served up one of the stronger prospect-heavy sets of the decade. The big draw was pre-rookie cards of prospects who would eventually reshape the majors: Shohei Ohtani appeared in his first Bowman issue before making his MLB debut, while Aaron Judge and Jose Altuve were already established names but remained highly sought after. The base set focuses heavily on young talent in the minors and low-level affiliates, which is the whole point of Bowman. You're hunting future stars when they're still relative unknowns outside of serious prospect circles. The photography and design feel clean without being flashy, and the set has aged well compared to some of its contemporaries. Collectors chase 2017 Bowman for the prospect cards and parallel runs. Chrome refractors are the main parallel tier and the ones driving secondary market prices. Bowman's Best inserts offer a higher-end feel with a smaller print run. Autographs appeared in hobby packs at reasonable rates, so if you're spending for sealed product, redemption hits and on-card signatures are realistic targets. If you're chasing early Ohtani or high-end parallels, you're paying either way, so factor that into your budget.
